Oakstone Services, LLC keeps the keys to this scriptorium. By opening the Volume, thou acceptest this covenant. If these terms displease thee, close the cover and depart unhexed.
I. Of the nature of the Volume
The Volume is a public webcomic: a cabinet of illuminated artwork and writings concerning the small apocalypses of ordinary life. It is offered for art, amusement, and information. No account is demanded, no comment box lies in ambush, no wares are sold, and no subscriber tithe is presently collected.
II. Of the leaves, and who keepeth them
The paintings, words, borders, marks, designs, and workings of code belong to Oakstone or are used by leave. Copyright, trademark, and kindred laws guard them more reliably than the gargoyles in the margins. Thou art given a narrow, revocable, non-exclusive, and non-transferable leave to view the Volume for personal and non-commercial purposes.
Thou mayest link to a public leaf and permit thy browser its ordinary cache. Unless the law itself alloweth it, thou mayest not copy, publish, sell, license, distribute, alter, strip away notices from, or make new works from the contents without prior written permission. No further rights emerge merely because one hath stared very intently at the gold leaf.
III. Of forbidden workings
Whoso consulteth the Volume shall not:
- use it contrary to law or to the rights of another;
- break, burden, flood, or trespass upon the Site or the engines beneath it;
- send malicious code, hunt vulnerabilities, or evade safeguards;
- falsely claim the blessing, authorship, or affiliation of the scriptorium; or
- dispatch tireless automata to harvest the leaves so heavily that ordinary readers are hindered, save for customary search indexing or written leave.
IV. Of portals leading elsewhere
Some links may open into provinces kept by strangers. Oakstone commandeth neither their contents nor their privacy, safety, or continued existence. A link is not an endorsement. Beyond such a portal, the stranger’s own covenants govern thee.
V. Of changes, absences, and errors in the stars
Leaves may be added, corrected, removed, suspended, or lost to maintenance without notice. The scriptorium promiseth not that the Volume shall be unbroken, perfectly secure, free of errors, or rendered alike by every glowing rectangle.
VI. Of warranties, which are not summoned
To the fullest measure the law permiteth, the Volume is offered “as is” and “as available,” without express or implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. Its pages are not legal, medical, financial, or other professional counsel. Where the law forbiddeth an exclusion, that exclusion shall not be worked upon thee.
VII. Of calamities attributed to the Volume
To the fullest measure the law permiteth, Oakstone, its owners, people, and service providers shall not answer for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive harms, nor for lost profits, data, goodwill, or use arising from the Volume. Where liability cannot lawfully be banished, it is narrowed to the least amount the law alloweth. Nothing herein excludes a duty that the law refuseth to exclude.
VIII. Of the law of the realm
The laws of Colorado govern this covenant, disregarding conflict-of-law rules. Disputes not commanded into another forum shall be brought before a competent court in Colorado. Rights that the law of thy own dwelling place maketh mandatory remain untouched.
IX. Of amendments and surviving clauses
This covenant may be revised, whereupon the new text and date shall appear upon this leaf. New words govern prospectively when posted unless another date is named. Continued consultation thereafter signifieth acceptance. If one clause faileth at law, it shall be narrowed or removed only as needed; its companions shall endure. A clause unenforced is not thereby abandoned.
This covenant and the Illuminated Privacy Notice comprise the understanding concerning thy use of the Volume, subject always to the controlling standard-language versions.
